Day 1: Arrival in Reykjavik & City Tour

On your first day in Iceland, you’ll arrive at Keflavik International Airport and meet your private guide, who will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavik. After settling in, you’ll start exploring the city with your guide.

Depending on what time your flight into Reykjavik lands, your city tour can include some or all of the following options:

Hallgrimskirkja

This iconic church is one of the tallest buildings in Iceland, and it offers stunning views of Reykjavik from its tower. Your guide will take you inside the church, where you can admire its unique architecture and learn about its history.

Harpa Concert Hall

Harpa is a modern concert hall and conference center located on the waterfront in downtown Reykjavik. Your guide will take you on a tour of the building, where you can see its impressive glass facade and learn about its role in Iceland’s cultural scene.

The Old Harbor

This museum is located in the heart of Reykjavik and offers a fascinating insight into the city’s history and culture. Your guide will take you on a tour of the museum, where you can learn about Reykjavik’s Viking past and its modern-day developments.

Laugavegur Street

The main shopping street in Reykjavik offers plenty of boutiques, souvenir shops, and cafes. Your guide will take you on a walk along the street, where you can soak up the atmosphere and pick up some unique Icelandic gifts.

Day 2: Exploring the Golden Circle and South Coast

On the second day of your tour, you’ll join your private driver guide for a full 8-hour day excursion exploring the Golden Circle.

Thingvellir National Park

Just 40 minutes or so drive from your accommodation, your first stop will be Thingvellir National Park (Þingvellir National Park), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the site of Iceland’s first parliament.

Your guide will take you on a walk through the park, where you can see the impressive Almannagjá fault and learn about the park’s geological history.

Geysir Geothermal Area

Your next stop will be the Geysir Geothermal Area, home to the famous Strokkur geyser. Your guide will take you to the geyser, where you can see it erupting every few minutes and feel the power of the boiling hot water.

After lunch, you’ll head to the South Coast, where your first stop will be Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Your guide will take you behind the waterfall, where you can feel the mist and get a unique perspective on this impressive natural wonder.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

Your final stop of the day will be Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, one of Iceland’s most unique and striking beaches. Your guide will take you to the beach, where you can see the impressive basalt columns and towering sea stacks.

Optional Secret Lagoon Bathing

The Secret Lagoon is an optional stop on the Iceland Golden Coast tour, but it is highly recommended for those looking for a unique and peaceful experience.

Located in the small town of Flúðir, this natural geothermal pool is a hidden gem, perfect for those seeking a more secluded and intimate bathing experience.

The Secret Lagoon is surrounded by steam rising from natural hot springs and surrounded by beautiful Icelandic landscapes. The water temperature is kept at a comfortable 38-40°C (100-104°F), making it a perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring.

During your visit, you will have the option to rent a towel and swimsuit if needed or bring your own. There are also changing rooms and showers available for your convenience. As you soak in the mineral-rich waters, you can take in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

By the end of your second day in Iceland, you’ll have explored some of the most iconic destinations in Iceland’s Golden Circle and South Coast with your private guide, getting a taste of the country’s stunning natural beauty and unique geological wonders.

Day 3: Hiking and Sightseeing in Vatnajökull National Park

On the third day of your tour, you’ll be heading to Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe’s largest glacier and some of Iceland’s most stunning natural wonders. Your private guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik in the morning and take you on a full-day tour of this stunning national park.

Skaftafell Visitor Center

Your first stop will be the Skaftafell Visitor Center, where you can learn about the park’s unique geological and ecological features. Your guide will take you on a walk through the center, where you can see exhibits on glaciers, volcanoes, and Iceland’s unique flora and fauna.

Day 4: Exploring the Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach

The Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach are some of the most beautiful attractions in Iceland. On the fourth day of your tour, your guide will collect you from your locally-based accommodation as you set off to explore these two amazing destinations.

After breakfast, you’ll head to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most stunning natural wonders.

Your guide will take you to the lagoon, where you can see the impressive icebergs floating in the water and hear the cracking sounds of the glacier.

To experience the lagoon up close, you will take a boat tour.

The tour will take you on a journey through the glacier-filled lagoon, where you will see various icebergs floating in the water. You will be mesmerized by the shades of blue and white that the icebergs reflect, making the scenery look like a work of art.

Diamond Beach

After the boat tour, you will head to Diamond Beach, which is located right across the road from the Glacier Lagoon.

This black sand beach is famous for its large chunks of icebergs that have washed up on its shore. The ice chunks shimmer like diamonds under the sunlight, hence the name Diamond Beach. You will get to walk along the beach, take pictures of the ice chunks, and marvel at the unique natural phenomenon.

Optional Activities

If you have time and would like to extend your tour, you can choose to take part in other activities. You can go hiking on one of the nearby glaciers or take a walk on the scenic walking trail that leads to the lagoon’s glacier. You can also choose to take a snowmobile ride on the glacier or explore the nearby town of Höfn.

Return to your accommodation at the base of Vatnajökull National Park.

Day 5: Northern Lights Hunting & Geothermal Spa Experience

On the sixth day of your tour, you will embark on an exciting adventure to hunt for the Northern Lights and enjoy a relaxing soak in a geothermal spa.

You will start your journey in the evening by traveling to a Northern Lights hunting site. The site is located in a remote and dark area, away from city lights, which makes it the perfect spot to see the Aurora Borealis.

You will be equipped with warm clothes, hot drinks, and a knowledgeable guide who will take you on a journey to see the Northern Lights.

Northern Lights Hunting

You will spend the evening hunting for the Northern Lights. Your guide will take you to the best locations to see the lights and give you information on what causes the natural phenomenon. You will be amazed by the stunning displays of green, pink, and blue lights dancing across the sky.

Geothermal Spa Experience

After the Northern Lights hunting, you will head to a nearby geothermal spa. The spa is a perfect place to relax and unwind after a night of excitement. You will soak in the natural hot springs, surrounded by stunning Icelandic scenery. The warm water and minerals in the hot springs are known for their healing properties, which will leave you feeling rejuvenated.

Optional Activities

If you have time and would like to extend your tour, you can choose to take part in other activities. You can go on a snowmobiling adventure, go ice fishing, or go on a snowshoeing tour. You can also choose to relax and take in the stunning Icelandic scenery.

Day 6: Fagradalsfjall Volcano Hike & Helicopter Tour

Your experienced pilot will take you on a scenic flight over the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you’ll be able to take in stunning views of the rugged coastline, craggy cliffs, and bubbling geothermal pools.

Fagradalsfjall Volcano

After the helicopter ride, it’s time for the main event: a visit to the Fagradalsfjall Volcano. Located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, this recently erupted volcano is one of Iceland’s most active and exciting natural wonders. As you approach the site, you’ll be able to see steam rising from the crater and feel the heat of the molten lava.
